I’ve had a few problems with the shopping cart because I’m trying to remove as much clutter as possible and after a lot of testing it seems that you have to keep of of the options for product display switched on other wise one can no longer add more then one product to the shopping cart.

The configuration in question is

admin > config > stock

Show New Products on empty Shopping Cart Page
Show Featured Products on empty Shopping Cart Page
Show Special Products on empty Shopping Cart Page
Show Upcoming Products on empty Shopping Page
Show Notice of Combining Shopping Cart on Login

If you set all these to ‘0′ then the above happens, at least for me. So I’ve set all to zero bar Show new products.

A few days ago I decided that I would setup direct credit card processing on one of my sites. I signed up with eway todo my C/C processing. I must say that the process with eway despite all their hype of how easy it is to get this going. The sales people are fast at promising but then you find out that things are not that straight forward, eg I asked if they supported Zen-Cart and was told that there was a module available from the Zen-Cart site and it worked well.

When I then installed it I found that the module only is setup to work via your own SSL cert and not via the eway hosted page as I had planned to use.

Anyhow I though maybe this is somewhat better anyway so of I went and bought a SSL cert and thanks to the great help of my host, Brad from Xyzulo this was painless and once this was done it was time to get Zen-Cart configured.

I was preparing myself to do a fair bit of coding to ensure that all calls to any pages involved with the checkout procedure, however there is where the goods news was that I found a switch in the Zen-Cart configuration to switch to https for the checkout procedure and I was done within minutes.

Once all this was in place then the integration with eway was indeed easy. As a side line also the SSL cert I bought from Brad cost me $44.00 including install and the cheapest one on eway was $139.00 on their super special pricing.

How to integrate Zen-Cart into WordPress

This has been coming for a little while now, however version one has finally hit the road. The functionality at this point of time still is at a starting point however the main thing I needed for my own site was to be able to display all products of a given Zen-Cart category in a WordPress page, this now allows me to have a page for every category that I then display in a drop-down menu. The great thing about this is that all products get read dynamically as changes happen in en-Cart, I used to have to update all changes manually in WordPress, which I would sometimes forget besides the extra work it requires.

Once I had this up and running on my site I found that I had to manually insert all the links to the category pages on the products page. Since visitors can click directly on the root page as well. To also have this dynamic and to be able to display all product category pages as icons on any page or post I added another function to be able to do this as well. So this is what’s in the first release.

The next release will include a widget to display the featured product(s) as they are defined in Zen-Cart as well as a html framed option of displaying Zen-Cart directly in a WordPress page.

To find out about all the features and to download zenWP for FREE follow this link now.

If you need a quick report that shows you the sales for a year by model and the monthly average then this is for you.

This SQL query needs to be executed against your database. To use this SQL database query you will need to go http://your-domain/cpanel > phpmyadmin and select your Zen-Cart database > open SQL tab, then copy and paste the relevant query and update the variables as required.

Copy and paste this SQL query into the SQL tab and change the dates, be sure to always make the date range a year otherwise the monthly average will not be correct.
